This Bridal Designer Created Her Entire Wedding Wardrobe for Her Tropical Nuptials in Nevis

Her wedding day would take place at the ruins of a church on the island, so Alexis hoped to bring that vintage romance to her ceremony look. In a sense, the fabric she used to create the dress was “something borrowed.” Alexis connected with a bridal designer as she was shutting down her own business and was given garbage bags full of fabric to use for her growing brand. “My wedding dress fabric was in there, which I didn’t know at the time,” says the bride. “It’s a silk dupioni, so it has these raw rips in it, which is very me and true to my brand. I like when things aren’t so perfect, and they had a vintage edge to them.”

Alexis thought about what she wanted to feature most—her décolletage and torso—and began draping on her own body. “I was like, ‘You know what? I’m just gonna make sure I love the way this drapes in the real fabric instead of doing the muslin,’” she says. She found hardware to create a front closure along her midline and pulled extra lace she used to make her sister’s wedding dress to craft straps. Her atelier helped bring everything together just as she planned.

Alexis also began hunting for more lace to create a veil and purse, but it took time to find the right match. Two weeks ahead of the wedding, she figured it out. “I went to my favorite lace mill in New York, and I knew something there was gonna be perfect. I finally got to the lace I used, and I almost started crying,” she shares. “Thank God I was in love with this!” When she finally got to wear the final product on her wedding day, she says, “I was so comfortable because everything was made to my body. I was just so happy and free to be in it.”
