Travis Hunter was drafted No. 2 overall to be the NFL’s first two-way superstar of the modern era. The Jacksonville Jaguars were already willing to give up the experiment after a disappointing rookie year, and this season Hunter has focused his time on being a full-time cornerback. Hunter only had one catch for eight yards through four games so far this season, but he’s looked good at cornerback for a Jaguars team that suddenly feels like a contender out of the AFC.

The Jags beat the Bengals, 22-17, on a day when Joe Burrow put up big passing numbers, but the Jacksonville defense did its job to limit the scoring. Hunter was part of the Jags’ success defensively, finishing the game with three solo tackles and two pass breakups. It looks like Hunter grabbed his second interception of this season at the end of the first quarter, but the play came back because of a penalty.

It’s too bad Hunter’s interception didn’t count, because he ended the play with the nastiest juke move of the NFL season. Hunter juked Tee Higgins out of his shoes after the interception, then raced up field to bring the Jags closer to the end zone. Too bad none of this mattered, because it was truly one of the best highlights of the NFL season.

This type of elusiveness is why the NFL fully believed Hunter could be a two-way player coming out Colorado. Maybe it can still happen for him eventually. Good things happen when Hunter gets his hands on the football, and this juke is a perfect example of the quickness and suddenness that makes him a special athlete.

The Jags are rolling, and Hunter is a real part of a solid defense. If the Jags can ever figure out how to leverage his talent offensively, there’s still a chance he can be the unicorn he was supposed to be when he entered the draft.
