Move over, minimalist manicures and slick-backed buns—Miu Miu has declared that the clean girl movement is over. What’s next? Messy, imperfect beauty.

“For the last few seasons, the nail look I have done for Miu Miu has been purposefully a little ‘surprising,’” says nail artist Mei Kawajari (known online as @nailsbymei). For spring-summer 2025, there was a custom bubblegum-pink shade that was intentionally chipped. Fall-winter 2025, on the other hand, was a super opaque glitter nail. For this year’s look, Kawajari and Mrs. Prada continued the trend with swathes of red polish that weren’t cleanly applied across the nails—but also sometimes messily spilled over onto the cuticle or fingertips. “This nail look reminds me of a young girl painting her nails quickly before heading out the door and a bit has gotten on her skin. Or, that maybe someone you love (like a kid or your boyfriend) painting your nails for you.” It worked perfectly with the season’s wind-blown hair, a signature style for both the Prada and Miu Miu collections.
The red manicure shade (shade Cherry Red from Manucurist) was vibrant and punchy—and intentional, too. “Red is both feminine and strong, and I love how timeless it is,” Kawajari says.
For those of us (ahem) who have a standing bi-weekly manicure appointment, this may be a bit of a tough trend to embrace. The spirit behind it, though, is exciting. “The clean girl look has had a moment, but this imperfect look is the opposite of that trend,” Kawajari says. “Finally! Beauty can be found in being real and imperfect.”
