There have been 1095 unique final scores in NFL history as of the conclusion of the 2025 season. With teams scoring more points in games, the extra point moving out to a 33-yard kick, and teams deciding to go for two more often to gain edges, never-before-seen final scores are still happening despite the NFL playing for more than 100 years. These unique scores are also called “Scorigami”.
Many of the Scorigami we are seeing are for 40-plus point games that have high scoring from both teams, but we’ve also been seeing scores in the 30s that have never happened. It’s not just high scores that have never happened, though. A game has never finished in a 2-2 tie, for instance. The NFL didn’t allow two-point conversions until 1994, and we’ve never seen an 8-7 game. A game has never ended in a 9-9 tie, among other scores still out there.
How may Scorigamis can we expect in 2026?
Since 1992, there have been three or more Scoigamis in every season. The average since the start of the 2000 season is seven per year with the high of 14 in 2013 and a low of three in 2022 and 2009.
Some potential Scorigami numbers to watch for in 2026
- 8-7: Someone scores a late touchdown and goes for the win, not the tie
- 9-9: Two struggling offenses end in a 9-9 tie, or a 6-6 game at end of regulation ending this way
- 18-8: Feels like it should be taken
- 25-18: A few ways to get to 18 then a score to win
- 32-22: A team playing catch up gets to 22 and a team keeping them away gets to 32
- 41-41: With 40-40 off the board, lets go one more
- 42-25: A team up late pushes it to a three-possession game
- 46-17: It’s the lowest number against the very common 17
- 47-40: let’s score a ton of points
- 50-0: The cleanest shutout number
- 50-3: It’s the lowest number against the very common 3
- 60-14: It’s the lowest number against the very common 14
How each NFL Scorigami in 2025 happened
After seven Scorigamis in 2024, there were four NFL games to hit new finals in 2025, two including the high-scoring Buffalo Bills. here is how each of them got there in chronological order:
Bills beat Ravens 41-40 in Week 1
This game features two high-powered offenses at the height of their powers, but the Bills started going for two in the third quarter and missed on consecutive attempts. Halfway through the fourth quarter, they sat at 25 points, a rare number. A missed extra point by the Ravens put Baltimore at 40 — not an entirely uncommon number on its own — before the Bills’ final push. Buffalo made it 40-38 after two touchdowns and an extra point but failed to convert on the game-tying two-point conversion. They got the ball back and kicked a field goal as time expired to win 41-40.
Cowboys and Packers tie 40-40 in Week 4
There are several ties still available on this list, but not as many as you would think. The NFL didn’t have sudden death overtime until 1974 when they added a 15-minute frame, so there were a bunch of ties prior to 1974 but then a lot fewer. They modified the rule in 2010 so it wasn’t sudden death for a first-drive field goal then shortened the time to 10 minutes in 2017. In 2025, they gave every team a possession. With those recent changes, ties can be more common.
Those rule changes directly impacted this game between the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers. Dallas didn’t win after their first-possession field goal because Green Bay was guaranteed a possession. The Packers only had 4:40 on the clock and drove deep into Dallas territory. After shots to the end zone failed, they settled for a 40-40 tie as time expired.
Texans beat Jaguars 36-29 in Week 10
In the third quarter, the Jaguars were up 23-10 and scored another touchdown. Up 19, they knew the Texans had to score three times to win so they tried to make it a 21-point lead to make it three touchdowns to tie or win. That play failed, and they sat at 29 points with a 19-point lead.
The Texans then scored a touchdown plus a two-point conversion to make it an 11-point game. Another touchdown with a failed two-point conversion made it a 5-point game. Houston scored again to go up 30-29 and tried another two-point conversion to ensure a late field goal wouldn’t beat them, but that try failed with 31 seconds on the clock.
Here’s where things get nuts. A 30-29 score has happened before. But the Texans returned a fumble for a touchdown to make it 36-29 as time expired. A final of 37-29 and 38-29 has happened, but because there was no time on the clock, there was no extra point attempt, and the final stood at Scorigami.
Bills beat Buccaneers 44-32 in Week 11
For Buffalo’s second Scorigami of the year, they also topped 40 points. The Buccaneers started the shenanigans in the third quarter when they scored a touchdown to make it 26-21. They went for two to try and make it 28-21 but the conversion failed. Buffalo got to 31 the old-fashioned way, with four touchdowns and PATs plus a field goal, and the score was 31-26. After another touchdown, the Bucs tried to make it a three-point lead with another two-point conversion that failed, sticking them at 32 points. Buffalo scored another touchdown to make it 37-32 and failed the two-point conversion to try and make it a seven-point game. The Bills’ final touchdown game them a 43-32 lead and Buffalo pushed it to 44-12 with an extra point to make it a two-touchdown lead with 2:35 left.
