While we love a crisp cotton poplin or breezy linen midi to get us through summer, it’s hard not to feel excited when fall’s new dress options start sweeping across sales floors. A signature dress can set the tone for the season ahead, and for fall 2026, designers knew it was time to go big or go home. This fall’s dress trends are all about expression—from bold colors, daring prints, and high-volume shapes, to romantic materials, vintage-inspired silhouettes, and feminine, bodycon styles.

We saw classic silhouettes all over the runways this season in fall-favorite finishes: chic leather shifts graced the stages at Bottega Veneta, Jil Sander, and Tod’s while elegantly draped styles and body-skimming fits came through at Gucci and Victoria Beckham. There was a healthy dose of rich, romantic options, too. Emerging brands like Fforme, Colleen Allen, and Conner Ives embraced velvet—a seasonal mainstay—while lace was worked head-to-toe at Khaite, Saint Laurent, and Gabriela Hearst.

Of course, the runways always deliver some showstopping moments, and this season’s statement dresses did not disappoint. Artsy, abstract prints in bright clashing colors were seen at Chanel, Celine, Proenza Schouler, and more, while Balenciaga and Valentino opted for bold monochromatic moments with their jewel-toned gowns. Volume and shape played a starring role as well, from bubble hems and layered ruffles to peplums and drop-waists. And we have to mention the Art Deco influence sprinkled throughout the season, as Miu Miu, Chanel, and many more decked their dresses out with a hearty helping of jewels, pailettes, embroidery, and fringe.
