Courtside to Cocktail Hour: Inside the Best and Buzziest US Open Parties

Email : 4

Game, set, party! Ahead of the official start of the US Open, a flurry of fetes took place across New York City. From Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka to Naomi Osaka and Novak Djokovic, the biggest stars in tennis traded their on-court kits for some highly fashionable attire. Here’s a look inside the most exclusive parties of the moment.

Club Lacoste Takes Over The Plaza Hotel

For one night only, Club Lacoste transformed The Plaza into an active tennis court. On Thursday, US Open winners Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev played an exhibition match inside the historic Edwardian Room. The grand Spanish Renaissance style space was awash in Lacoste green with a custom built court—showcasing Club Lacoste’s vision of placing tennis courts in unexpected places. “I’ve been on courts around the world, but nothing cool like this,” Medvedev told Vogue. “This is my first time inside [The Plaza]. I’ve seen Home Alone 2—maybe five times—and I remember all the scenes at the hotel. I’m happy to be here!” Before the pros took to the court, guests indulged in Lacoste’s signature cocktail “Le Chose,” created by founder René Lacoste in 1967, and took selfies with Djokovic, the brand’s longtime ambassador who exemplifies sophisticated style on-and-off the court. “I’m very self critical about the way I dress. I always look for counsel from my wife,” he revealed to Vogue. “I’ve been getting out of my comfort zone and trying to be more bold and embrace baggy clothes. But, I’m finding my own authentic look, particularly with what Lacoste is doing in connecting their heritage style with streetwear.”

Chase Sapphire Reserve Hosts a Chic Dinner for Coco Gauff

On Wednesday evening, newly-minted Cincinnati Open champion Coco Gauff was the guest of honor at a dinner party at Casa Tua, celebrating her partnership with Chase Sapphire Reserve. The tennis phenom stepped out in a Miu Miu dress and sky-high stilettos for the special occasion. “I haven’t worn heels in a while!” Gauff laughed to Vogue. “I’m still getting used to them.” Andrew Steinthal from JPMorganChase welcomed Gauff and VIPs, including Lindsey Vonn and Gayle King, for a multi-course meal featuring cacio e pepe and beef tenderloin. A playlist inspired by Gauff’s favorite artists—Doechii and Tyler the Creator a’plenty—provided a peppy vibe while vintage tennis rackets and dahlias and roses filled the elegant space. “I’m super excited for the Open this year,” Gauff said. “Cincinnati was a good win for me, so it’s cool to have momentum going into the US Open. I really love playing in New York.” To help her relax ahead of big tournaments, Gauff revealed that she’s all about Korean BBQ feasts and getting lost in a good film. “I’m a theatergoer. I’ll go to movies by myself and I’m into Letterboxd. Interstellar is one of my favorites,” she shared. “I like Marvel and anime. Anything fiction, I’m there!”
