CHICAGO — It’s never boring when the Chicago Sky play the Indiana Fever, and that remains the case even after Chicago traded away Angel Reese. As the two teams met on Saturday afternoon at the United Center, Sky guard DiJonai Carrington was ejected late in the first quarter for a Flagrant-2 foul on Indiana’s Sophie Cunningham during a breakaway layup attempt.
Carrington whacked Cunningham across the head as she went up for a layup. The play was reviewed by the officials, and Carrington was tossed after it was ruled a Flagrant-2. Carrington had scored eight quick points off the bench to stem the tide after Indiana got out to an early lead.
Cunningham had to be held back from challenging Carrington by teammates and staff after the play.
The United Center quickly showed a woman in a trans rights t-shirt after Carrington’s foul on Cunningham. Carrington received big cheers from the home crowd as he walked into the tunnel to go to the locker room.
Carrington immediately sent the following post on Threads after getting sent to the locker room. She then followed it up with the date of the next Sky-Fever game on August 23.
We’ll update this story as it develops.
