Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu Is Letting Go of Perfection

Email : 7

Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu is in bed. She’s stripping off, the lighting is sultry, and her skin is luminous. For a moment, it’s a tableaux akin to a kind of old-school, glamorous beauty campaign; and then she picks up a paintbrush.

Fronting Haus Labs’s new “We Love Concealer” campaign, the Emily in Paris and Call My Agent! star gets progressively paint-splattered m. It’s an appropriately off-beat introduction to Leroy-Beaulieu as the new face of the Lady Gaga-founded brand’s Triclone Skin Tech collection. As it turns out, it’s also in keeping with her own approach to beauty.

“I was very happy for it to be provocative,” she tells Vogue. When we speak, she is not in bed, but just arriving in France, once again, to shoot her final scenes for Emily in Paris. “It’s outside the usual stuff that you see for makeup.” What attracted her was its playfulness. “We’re letting go of something about the feminine. This didn’t feel like that usual bourgeois way of talking about makeup,” she says. “This is more who I am. I like to be off the road. It feels good, because we share a sense of freedom.”

The campaign arrives as Leroy-Beaulieu prepares to close another chapter and venture anew. After filming the final season of Emily in Paris, which she began working on back in 2019, she says the goodbye will feel bittersweet. “I feel conflicted: happy to move on and sad to leave it behind,” she says. “It’s a big chunk of our lives, but it’s also time to move on.” For the cast, she adds, the ending is “emotional and, at the same time, joyful.”

Lady Gaga’s Haus Labs has made complexion products a brand focus—the pop star fronted its previous “We Love Foundation” campaign, too—and Leroy-Beaulieu stars in the follow-up for the Triclone Skin Tech Concealer: a lightweight, medium-coverage formula that combines makeup with skincare ingredients including fermented arnica, caffeine, and the brand’s BioFerment 7 Complex. And while the product promises a polished visage, its new face is more interested in what happens when things aren’t quite so immaculate.

Shooting the campaign, she shares, allowed her to indulge her inner child. “I felt like I was three years old,” Leroy-Beaulieu reflects. “When you’re a kid, and you just jump into the puddles, and make a lot of mess, and your parents say, ‘Don’t do that.’ And then you’re allowed to do it, and that’s great! It really appealed to my childish side.”
